Overview

The Assistant FSQA Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with FSIS/USDA and customer requirements within our processing plant operations. Working directly with the operations leadership team, the Assistant FSQA Manager directs, oversees, and implements Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs to guarantee product safety, legality, and quality across various plant processes, including first processing and second processing. Additionally, this role manages and develops supervisory and/or hourly FSQA personnel to achieve departmental objectives.

 

This position works NIGHT shift: 9:00 PM - 7:30 AM 

Responsibilities

 

  • Implement, verify, and validate Food Safety programs such as HACCP plans, SSOP compliance, and adherence to audit standards such as BRC.
  • Manage FSIS/USDA regulatory relationships and ensure compliance with regulations and corporate programs.
  • Oversee training initiatives for FSQA supervisors and hourly technicians to ensure high levels of competency and commitment.
  • Promote a culture of food safety among FSQA supervisors and hourly team members.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with in-plant FSIS/USDA personnel and report compliance resolutions.
  • Improve FSQA data reporting systems and communicate trends for process improvement.
  • Participate in projects to enhance performance from a food safety and quality perspective.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain SPC programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, preferably in Food Science, Meat/Animal Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Food Processing and Quality Management.
  • Previous supervisory experience or demonstrated potential to develop salaried supervisory employees.
  • Detail-oriented with analytical aptitude; exposure to Statistical Process Control is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills with the ability to coach and develop employees.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing work environments with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in PC applications including Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours and travel occasionally for business-related visits or conferences.
